Ronald Gerritse is the chairman of the board of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets. He joined AFM on 1 May 2011 as Chairman of the Board of the AFM.
From 2003 to 2011, Gerritse held the position of Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Finance, combining it since 2008 with the position of Treasurer of the same Ministry. In the latter position, he was, inter alia, closely involved in the various operations supporting financial institutions during the credit crunch. Before that, he was the Secretary General of the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (1996-2003) and General Secretary of the Dutch Social Economic Council (SER) (1990-1996).
Gerritse studied Economics at the VU University in Amsterdam and he obtained his doctorate in 1982 with a dissertation on trade cycles in planned economies. To that end, he did research at the Economic Institute of the Czechoslovakian Academy of Sciences in Prague.
In 1997, Gerritse started working as a researcher at the Institute for Research on Public Expenditure. In 1983-1984, he worked for the RSV Parliamentary Inquiry Committee. Between 1984 and 1987, he was Head of the Economic Structure Issues Division of the Ministry for Social Affairs, and from 1987 to 1990 Director of the Institute for Research on Public Expenditure.
