Former CEO ABN-Amro
Rijkman Groenink joined AMRO Bank in 1974 as a corporate trainee. He held a series of positions in Retail, Commercial and Corporate Banking before he joined the Managing Board of the Bank in 1988.
Following the merger of ABN and AMRO Bank in 1990, he was appointed to the Managing Board of ABN AMRO. In May 2000 he was appointed as Chairman of the
Managing Board. In November 2007 he left the Chair at ABN AMRO following the acquisition of the Bank by a consortium of Banks, comprising of RBS, Fortis and Santander, realizing exceptional value for shareholders.
Subsequently he has engaged himself as a partner in Atlas NV, an investment vehicle of Marcel van Poecke. Together they are investing in fossil energy (energy trading, LNG storage, Oil and Gas non-operated assets) and in renewable energy (wind turbines, sustainable forestry management and non silicon based photo voltaic).
Current memberships and advisory roles include amongst others: Supervisory board member of SHV holding NV; Supervisory board member of Struik food group; Chairman of the Board of the Foundation Priority Shares Aalberts Industries; Senior advisor and non-exec. Partner of Frontiers Capital; and Chairman of the Investment Committee of 4 Rae renewable and alternative energy Investment Fund Sarl.
Rijkman Groenink received a royal knighthood in 2006. He was elected European Banker of the Year 2005. He received a MBA Honoris Causa in International Business in 2007.
