The Risk International Financial Program has been established in 2006 and has proven to be a great experience for students and a great success for companies. Previous research destinations include Argentina, Malaysia, Mexico, Costa Rica & Panama, Brazil and Peru. This year 16 highly motivated students will be selected by the IFP Board to conduct financial research in Colombia. These students are active in the fields of Finance, Accountancy, Controlling and Organization & Management Control. The students are required to meet a number of conditions to be selected. They are expected to have a sufficient level of financial knowledge, to be international oriented and to have research experience.
From September onwards the students are actively involved in the project. The students are divided into three different committees: the Acquisition committee, the Research committee and the Activity committee. The acquisition committee will approach possible interested companies wherefore we can conduct research in Colombia. When a company is interested, the research committee will prepare a draft research proposal which will be sent to the companies. The third committee is the activity committee, which will organize all kinds of activities from September till June, like socials, participants weekend and other activities. During the whole period the students are provided with the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable them to successfully perform the field research. This will be done during lectures, by a Spanish language course and workshops given by guest speakers and professors.
In January the research groups will start with their individual research assignment. From this phase on the students cooperate with professors from the University of Groningen in order to enhance the quality of the research. For four months the students are now highly intensive engaged in the research and will, in corporation with the companies, setup a research framework and determine the contents of the research.
Field research phase
On the 11th of April we will leave for our destination – Colombia. This phase of 2.5 weeks will be marked by conducting research, which will mainly consist of visiting companies, taking interviews and gathering information. During the period of field research the students will be supported by the professors that will also travel to Colombia.
After returning from Colombia the research groups will process the information gathered so far and write a report covering the research question. In July the students will present the final version of the project to the assigned company.
